Tyla’s Training

It has always felt important to Tyla to be transparent about the lineage of knowledge — both to honor their teachers and where their knowledge comes from and also to acknowledge the full complexity of the imperfect humans and spaces that have informed their work. Below is an overview of the teachers and training spaces that feel most relevant to the work Tyla currently does in the world to give you a little insight into both how they have invested in the past and how they continue to invest today.

  • Dr. Rosales Meza

Dr. Rosales Meza has been Tyla’s primary guide on the journey of decolonial learning and healing. Tyla joined the second cohort of Dr. Meza’s Unlearn the White Colonial Mind Program in early summer 2021 and is continuing their learning in the Decolonial Accomplice Group Dr. Meza offers to graduates of this program. You can learn more about Dr. Meza’s current offerings for both white folks and BIWFOC (Black, Indigenous Women and Femmes of Color) here.

  • Layla F. Saad

Layla F. Saad is the author of the self-guided workbook Me + White Supremacy: Combat Racism, Change the World, and Become a Good Ancestor which has been a preeminent resource in Tyla’s understanding of their own relationship to and complicity with the system of white supremacy. Tyla first completed the workbook in summer 2020 when they co-led an accountability circle for 35+ humans to complete the work, and they have returned to this invaluable resource numerous times as they continue to unravel the supremacy that lives in their own consciousness. You can learn more about upcoming opportunities to complete this work in accountable community with other white, white-passing and white-adjacent folks here.

  • The Atlas Project

The Atlas Project is a non-profit organization that facilitates high-impact transformational trainings for everyday humans. Tyla graduated from the BOS2 cohort of The Atlas Project in fall 2019 and subsequently served as a volunteer coach for the ATX1 cohort, which completes in fall of 2021. Tyla cannot recommend this training highly enough for anyone ready to add rocket fuel to their life, and they highly recommend Atlas as a precursor to working with a coach one-on-one or becoming a life coach yourself. You can learn more about upcoming trainings at The Atlas Project here.

  • Lead. Gather. Relate.

Lead. Gather. Relate. is an organization led by Dr. Jenn McCabe in service of “world making leadership.” Tyla is currently a student in the fall 2021 Radical Relating Skills Workshop, which aims to empower participants to relate competently in the face of difference without compromising their own sovereignty and integrity. Tyla is so far enjoying their learning experience and creating immense value from their participation in the program. You can learn more about the Radical Relating Skills Workshop here.

  • Accomplishment Coaching

Accomplishment Coaching is a year-long, ICF-accredited coach training program (CTP) where Tyla acquired the basics of their coaching skill set as a participant in the New York Summer 2018-2019 cohort led by Christopher McAuliffe and Laura Fink. While Tyla will be forever grateful for the knowledge they gleaned – both as a student of the CTP and in their one year of participation in the Leadership Development Program (summer 2019-2020) – Tyla is no longer affiliated with and does not actively recommend this training space.

  • Landmark Worldwide

Landmark Worldwide is an international personal and professional growth, training and development company that “enables people to produce extraordinary results and enhance the quality of their lives.” Tyla completed Landmark’s Curriculum for Living (summer 2018-2019), which includes The Landmark Forum, Advanced Course, and Self-Expression Leadership Program, as well as The Communication Course: Access to Power. Tyla no longer studies with Landmark Worldwide and does not actively recommend this training space.
